Keeping Safe

Dawn House School is committed to providing a safe and secure environment. The school has also achieved the “Healthy Schools Gold Award”.

Policies

Health Safety

Health & Safety is given a high priority within the school and the senior leadership group regularly monitors the school site and current practice.  There are regular staff Health and Safety briefings and all staff have completed the Educare CPD module in health and safety. Risk assessments are standard for all aspects of school life and for some individual pupils.

Fire Safety

The school has established procedures, and works in close partnership with the local Fire Prevention Officer.
The fire alarms are tested by our maintenance staff and we practise full emergency procedures in school and residential settings at least once a term.

Child Protection

The health, safety and welfare of pupils are of prime importance to the school. Policies and procedures for child protection are securely in place and all staff receive regular training to ensure practices are of the highest standard.  I CAN is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and we carry out appropriate vetting and verification of qualifications, employment history and experience on all our staff.

We work closely in partnership with parent and carers, discussing with them any concerns we may have.

Jenny McConnell, Head of Therapy, is the Designated Safeguarding Lead responsible for all child protection issues at the school. Angela Child and Gary Simpson will deputise in Jenny's absence.

Anti-bullying Policy

At Dawn House School we are committed to the elimination of all forms of bullying and harassment.  We believe that every member of our school community has the right to work or study without fear of bullying, harassment or victimisation.

We aim to provide a safe, caring and friendly environment for learning for all our pupils to allow them to improve their life chances and help them maximise their potential.

We have a strong anti-bullying policy which all staff are aware of. Our anti-bullying coordinator (Amanda Stringfellow) ensures that everyone in school is familiar with its contents  and manages and monitors  any reported  bullying incidents.
