Principal’s message to families – 9th May 2025
Engage Develop Aspire Communicate
Our vision: Working towards successful futures
I’m hoping by now that most of you will have had a look at our website and Facebook page to see all of the exciting adventures that KS3 had whilst on the PGL residential last week. For your ease, the link to day 2 is here…

…but in summary the group ( pupils AND staff) enjoyed axe throwing, canoeing, climbing of various sorts along with some amazing food and great evening activities such as laser tag.
They all looked exhausted but happy when they arrived back and I’m sure benefited from a long weekend to recover.
Its not just the activities that give huge benefits and fun. Residentials like this provide valuable opportunities for personal growth, independence, teamwork, and resilience. Staff reported high levels of engagement, support, and enthusiasm throughout. Where things might have gone a little wrong, children followed adult guidance and things were resolved; children showed friendship and kindness; they led by example, supporting each other to participate. The staff team were full of praise for how the children behaved and managed themselves. A huge WELL DONE to everyone!
A huge shout out to the staff, without whom none of this would be possible- THANK YOU!!!
Older students have now started their exams and assessments- they were buzzing about their Art GCSE a couple of weeks ago; English assessments are now taking place along with Health & Social Care and Number and Measure exams. These have been approached carefully and supportively in school and so far all students who were planned to take part have managed to do so.
Quite purposefully, other than that, this has been a quiet week with the only thing coming up for me to remind you about being the Friends of Dawn House collection for all of those clothing items you have cleared in your Spring Cleaning! This will be
Bags2School: Tuesday 10th June- we’ll keep reminding you! Please only send in items on the day.
We look forward to seeing everyone for a normal 5 day week next week!
Have a good weekend,
Jenny
If your child leaves home in the morning a little unsettled and you want to quickly tell us, so we know to expect a tricky start to the day, a quick email (that we can follow up later) to the tutor and/or core team with ‘Handle with Care’ in the email title will ensure that we are aware.
