Medical needs in school
Here at Dawn House, we’re dedicated to making sure that pupils are happy and healthy. We have a number of measures and policies in place to ensure that children’s medical needs are met.
Dawn House School has a dedicated team of first aiders. Staff across site are trained in first aid. Our first aid courses are delivered onsite by our Wellbeing Coordinator, which allows the training to be tailored to the needs of the students at Dawn House School.
The Wellbeing Coordinator is qualified to teach first aid, allergy management, paediatric first aid, oxygen therapy. She is also the onsite first Aider at work and paediatric first aider. Please see the medical policy for more information.
Staff at Dawn House School are trained in a wide range of medical interventions to support our students to access their education.
Dawn House School has a full time Nursing Auxiliary here to support children with additional medical needs and liaise with parents and medical professionals to ensure students are receiving the very best care whilst at school. Each student who comes to Dawn House will have a care plan put in place, this is agreed with parents and updated yearly or as things change. This plan will identify what support a student may need whilst at school.
If your child receives a place at Dawn House School and has a medical condition we will always work together with parents and their healthcare team to ensure we have the correct training and support in place for your child.
Staff are trained in the following:
- Medication handling and administration
- Allergy management (including administering auto injector pen)
- Epilepsy Awareness (including Buccal Midazolam)
- Staff are able to support with personal care where needed
