Apparently this only happens once every 823 years! So happy special February!

DHS Biodiversity project

We recently made an application to the National Education Nature Park grant programme. Thanks to Karen Lindley and Morgan Winfield we have been successful in securing a grant to improve the biodiversity of the school site(which is already ‘green’ I’m sure you’ll agree) around the paved area behind the Food room. There are some lovely plans to take up the slabs and put in some seating with planters. This is quite a quick project, so we look forward to being able to share plans and pictures very soon.

School Mobile Phone Policy

Today I also attach the schools mobile phone policy, with a reminder to please be aware and support your children in their out of school communications with their friends. It is also a reminder for you please to share with your children, the rule that they will hand in their phones to their form tutor at the beginning of the school day and it will be returned at the end of the day. Failure to do this will result in a call home to you and you may be requested to come into school.

I’m sure you will all agree that we have a shared responsibility here.

Bags2School – collection date Thursday 26 February 2026

We thought it was about time for us to encourage you to have that half term clothing and linen etc clear-out. Your bags are collected from school and support us to raise funds for the Friends of Dawn House.

Science at DHS:

This week we are highlighting Science as part of our curriculum overview.

The Science curriculum at Dawn House School engages pupils in active, hands-on learning that supports curiosity, investigation and future readiness. Through a wide range of practical and STEAM-based experiences, pupils develop a positive, “can-do” approach to problem-solving and begin to understand how science relates to the world around them.

Our science curriculum is carefully developed in collaboration with speech and language therapists, supporting pupils to communicate their ideas, questions and findings with growing confidence. From Lower School through to Sixth Form, pupils explore topics across biology, chemistry and physics, building scientific knowledge and skills through observation, experimentation and working scientifically.

Science at Dawn House School aims to inspire pupils to make a positive contribution, aspire to their full potential and develop the skills needed for life beyond school. We also have currently have a number of students working towards their GCSE in this subject.

Do ask your children what they are currently investigating in Science, as topics change regularly throughout the year.

And finally…some big, exciting news!

I am delighted (and a little sad!) to announce that Ben Norman, Deputy Head has been successful in being offered a Headship at Fountaindale School! A huge well done to him, and he will be taking this up after Easter. We have yet to tell the children formally, so would ask that if you feel you need to share this information before we do so in school next week, that you do so sensitively, as we know many will miss him.
