6th Form Stars Build Skills and Community with VIY Project

A group of enthusiastic 6th form pupils recently took part in an inspiring three-day project in collaboration with VIY (Volunteer It Yourself) –  a national organisation that helps young people learn vocational skills through community volunteering.

The project saw the students rolling up their sleeves to renovate a local community building, putting their effort into practical tasks such as painting, decorating, and minor construction jobs. Over the three days, the group not only helped transform a much-loved local space, but also gained valuable hands-on experience that could serve them well in future employment or training.

The atmosphere was one of teamwork, energy, and pride, as the pupils tackled each task with determination and good humour. Guided by professional tradespeople and VIY mentors, they were able to build their confidence and learn new skills in a real-world setting.

This project is a shining example of how community partnerships and practical learning can empower young people, develop employability, and make a lasting difference to local spaces.

Dawn House School is incredibly proud of all the pupils who took part – true role models for how volunteering and learning can go hand in hand.
