Dawn House Residential School is proud to share the findings of its latest Ofsted inspection, which has rated the overall experiences and progress of children and young people as Good. The report highlights the significant role that overnight stays play in fostering independence, friendships, and progress across key developmental areas.

Learning at Dawn House extends seamlessly from school into the residential provision, with staff creating meaningful opportunities for children to develop social skills through play-based activities. Children’s voices are central to the provision, with their wishes and views actively sought and carefully considered to meet individual communication needs.

Staff promote healthy lifestyles, encouraging physical activity and supporting children’s dietary and health needs. Collaboration between school and residential staff is strong, ensuring children’s progress and welfare are closely monitored and targets are set to support future development. Children are encouraged to develop empathy, tolerance, and respect, with older pupils acting as positive role models for younger peers.

In terms of safety, the inspection noted that children are supported to take age-appropriate risks, gain confidence, and build independence, including using public transport safely. Robust safeguarding measures and clear boundaries ensure a calm and nurturing environment, with children aware of how to raise any concerns.

The effectiveness of leaders and managers was also rated Good, reflecting strong leadership, clear accountability, and a commitment to enhancing residential provision. Staff benefit from high-quality supervision, training opportunities, and regular team meetings to reflect on practice and improve outcomes for children.

This Ofsted report reinforces Dawn House Residential School’s dedication to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
