'This week’s proud moments' …
Juniors class had a fabulous OT group session engaging in an animal adventure activity. Lots of imaginative animal moves from jumping kangaroos to slithering snakes! A great way to get some regulating movement into the school day.
Children in Primary 1 independently made ‘ants on a stick’ linked to the hungry Caterpillar story in the sensory snack squad group.
A lovely Primary 2 activity created an obstacle course with support exploring activities that made children feel green.
They also tried new food like celery, cream cheese and raisins for the first time very confidently!
Assembly this week was all about healthy friendships– what makes a good friend and mutual respect. Children discussed how we keep children safe at Dawn House and were reminded about who the safeguarding team are. I wonder if they can remember (Philip Chandler, Mary Kirby, Kathy Horton, Jenny McConnell) who we are and what we do?
Safeguarding at Dawn House School
This week, our staff team took part in a twilight training session delivered by the Nottinghamshire Prevent Team. Prevent is part of the Government’s wider safeguarding strategy and aims to help professionals recognise and respond to early signs that a child or young person may be vulnerable to radicalisation or extremist influences. The training helped staff strengthen their understanding of how to identify potential risks, promote critical thinking, and support pupils to stay safe both online and in their wider communities. At Dawn House School, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and this training is particularly relevant as we support children and young people who may require additional guidance in understanding relationships, communication, online content, and keeping themselves safe. By keeping our knowledge up to date, we can continue to provide a safe, supportive, and informed environment for all pupils and families.
Sensory integration and school uniform.
While we have a uniform at dawn House that we hope helps children feel that they belong to our school community, we also know that sometimes aspects of wearing particular clothes can make our children feel uncomfortable. We do encourage children to wear our uniform but are always happy with similar adaptations that enable them to come to school in comfort.

Limited places are available so please inform the school office if you will be attending.
- Saturday 28 November – Parents’ Day and Christmas Fair
- Monday 30 November – School closed for pupils
- Tuesday 15 December – Christmas Performance (two shows)
- Thursday 17 December – School closes for the Christmas Holiday at 1.00pm for all pupils
If your child leaves home in the morning a little unsettled and you want to quickly tell us, so we know to expect a tricky start to the day, a quick email (that we can follow up later) to the tutor and/or core team with ‘Handle with Care’ in the email title will ensure that we are aware.
