Our vision: Working towards successful futures
Good afternoon! Wow its hot out there! This hot spell is set to continue so please bear this in mind when sending your children to school. Sun cream (labelled), hats, cool clothing and water bottles please.
It’s been another busy week here. Fishing trips, Alton Towers, McDonalds have all been happening as part of our curriculum.
On Monday we had a visitor from Mansfield Town Football club who presented our sponsored penalty shootout challenge. Coaches and players from the club will be joining classes over the next few weeks to develop football and sports skills ready for the penalty shootout on Sports Day. I hope your children have been waving sponsor forms at you and your wider family, to support school fundraising.
Next week our Motor Vehicle maintenance group are off out to the Coventry Car Museum – there’s nothing like expanding learning through experiences like this.
Staff have been busy too, hosting 3 of Speech and Language Uk’s Trustees for the day on Wednesday – the feedback was fabulous, they enjoyed their day hearing about the school and our plans for the future; hearing about how literacy has really developed, how our therapists work and about how we keep our site safe and looking as good as it does. Their most impressive part of the day was meeting the Pupil Leadership Group, who spoke well about our school and how we encourage pupil voice.
Thank you to all involved in the day – it was a great opportunity to showcase what we do. Thank you too, to the Trustees for making the journey ‘up North’
This weeks Friends of Dawn House ‘ask’ for the Summer Fayre are items for our TOMBOLA! Small items that we can stick a ticket to, for you all to try and win ( hopefully someone else’s) donations! Please empty out those cupboards, drawers, toyboxes and garages to see what you might be able to spare for us.
The Father’s Day stall has gone well today so we hope all the Dads and Grandads out there enjoy their gifts and have a lovely day on Sunday.
In staff news we are sad to be saying goodbye to Colleen Taylor one of our residential staff. We thank her for all of her hard work, wish her luck and hope that she keeps in touch.
We also celebrate Becky Evans achievement, she has gained a Level 2 certificate in Beauty Specialist Techniques. This is what she said…
“At the age of 19, I gained an NVQ Level 3 qualification in hairdressing. I have always wanted a qualification in beauty therapy and with the support from Dawn House school, I have achieved a Level 2 certificate in Beauty Specialist techniques.
I teach an options group once a week, which has led to one of the students being inspired to choose hair and beauty for their future career path.
With determination, practice and skill, the students have gained confidence by completing a hair and beauty service on each other and teachers.”
A great example of the schools commitment to ‘growing our own’. A big well done Becky.
We are furiously recruiting to other new and replacement posts, so will keep you all posted over the next few weeks and there will be plenty of time to inform children of any changes. Our Pupil Leadership Group have already been involved in recruitment processes and give us loads of valuable input.
More information about our Summer Fair and Sports Day on the 11th July coming up next week. For now, just make sure you have the date in your diaries.
Have a great weekend,
Jenny
If your child leaves home in the morning a little unsettled and you want to quickly tell us, so we know to expect a tricky start to the day, a quick email (that we can follow up later) to the tutor and/or core team with ‘Handle with Care’ in the email title will ensure that we are aware.
