Excitement is building as we prepare to head off on our much-anticipated ski trip to Samoëns this Saturday for a full week of adventure, learning and snowy fun. Suitcases are being packed, ski legs are getting ready, and the countdown is well and truly on!

Our journey begins with travel from East Midlands Airport to Geneva, followed by a transfer into the mountains and arrival in Samoëns. Once settled into our accommodation, pupils will have time to relax and prepare for the exciting week ahead.

Sunday will focus on settling in, unpacking, exploring the village and collecting ski equipment. This gentle start will help everyone feel comfortable and confident before taking to the slopes.

From Monday to Friday, pupils will take part in a programme of ski lessons on the Grand Massif mountain range, with sessions split across the day and time built in for lunch and rest. As confidence grows, groups will progress to different areas of the mountain. Samoëns is an excellent location for beginners, with dedicated nursery areas at Samoëns 1600m and Morillon 1100m, offering gentle slopes and easy lifts. There are also long, scenic runs within the Grand Massif area, providing an ideal progression route for those ready to develop their skills further.

In preparation for the trip, pupils attended six weeks of training at Swadlincote Dry Ski Slope around six months ago, learning the basics and building confidence on skis. Now it’s time to see if those skills come back — especially the all-important snow plough!

Midweek, pupils will enjoy a rest day, with time to explore the local village and market, relax with films and games, and enjoy a meal out or takeaway. This provides a welcome opportunity to recharge before returning to the slopes.

At the end of the week, ski equipment will be returned before we begin our journey home, travelling back via Geneva and arriving home on Saturday.

Beyond the skiing, Samoëns itself is a real highlight. This small, friendly alpine village feels like stepping into a real-life snow globe, with charming stone buildings, cosy cafés and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Unlike some larger resorts, it is a genuine working village, making it feel calm, safe and inviting.
