I start my message today with a serious, but necessary reminder for us all about keeping our children safe in our communities.

In light of yesterday’s deeply upsetting incident involving the stabbing of a pupil at a City school—described by the school’s headteacher as “a deeply traumatic event for the whole school community”—we want to remind all families of the importance of supporting young people to stay safe when out and about in the community. Please continue to speak with your child about being aware of their surroundings, staying with trusted friends when travelling, and knowing how to seek help if they ever feel unsafe. Our priority at Dawn House School is the wellbeing of every young person, and we encourage parents and carers to reach out if their child needs any additional reassurance or support at this time.

This week at Dawn House…

Sixth form students have had a successful trip to Robin Hoods Bay where they were able to enjoy some glorious sunshine and take in the beautiful scenery of the North Yorkshire coastline. This is the first year that War Hammer has played a part in the trip and students were able to have an extended game in The Old School house.

Lots of happy memories were made and staff were very impressed by the resilience and determination demonstrated by students. Most importantly lots of fun was had by all and friendships were strengthened and created during this three day residential.  Not having phones on the trip meant that students took full advantage of the time to play board games and hang out together. Thank you to all staff and parents who supported  this trip and well done to the students who took part. Do have a look at the beautiful photos.

And yesterday of course, was World Book Day!

We had a fantastic World Book Day 2026 celebration today! The whole school was truly immersed in the worlds of Myths & Legends, with students taking part in a range of exciting activities throughout the day: Bow & Arrow production, Legendary Potions making, Movie Voiceovers & Sound Effects, Build a  Bear Costume making, Mythical Artefact Workshop, Creating & Performing a Legend, to name a few.  It was wonderful to see so much creativity and enthusiasm! 🧪✨

Our Book Stall was extremely popular all day and raised a whopping £21, with each book costing just 20p. That’s an astonishing result — well done to our fantastic readers! 📚 You have truly shown what today is all about.

The Most Creative Pupil and Staff Costume Competitions were also a big highlight. There was great engagement, lots of thoughtful ideas, and some brilliant prizes awarded! 🎭

Students also enjoyed a delicious Themed Dessert at lunchtime, which added an extra magical touch to our celebration of Myths & Legends!

Thank you to the organisers of the day, to everyone for supporting and taking part, to parents for helping children with their costumes for the day and to our kitchen staff for their support too!

Fairview Farm Egg Collection

🐣💛 Fairview Farm are supporting a very worthy cause and will be a Easter Egg Collection Point for Ravenshead 💛🐣

They will be collecting Easter eggs which will be donated to the Children’s Cancer ward at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

As a thank you, anyone who drops off an Easter egg donation will receive a FREE Pony or Donkey Pampering Session on the farm 🐴✨

Please call to book a suitable time, we can only accommodate 8 people per session.

Red Nose Day- Comic Relief

FRIDAY 20th March

We will be setting up a route for you to donate to RND, noses will be on sale in school (£2 a nose!) and children and staff can wear red (NOT FOOTBALL KIT- SORRY!) or non-uniform on the day.

This day is also a STEM Theme day with curriculum related activities in their house groups.

March Market Stall

This Thursday, 12th March, we will be offering all pupils in school an opportunity to access our ‘pop up’ Market stall where they can browse the items on sale ready for Mother’s Day.

There will be items on sale priced from £1 up to £5.

Our pop up Market stalls provide the opportunity for the young people to find that gift for someone special in their family, eg: mum, gran, aunty, family friend with the support of staff in school.

Many of the young people can find going to the shops difficult, need adult support if they do, so having this opportunity helps them develop their skills, eg; making choices, managing money, communication and you receive a gift that your son/daughter has purchased independently of you…what a lovely surprise.

Please  send your child in with money and a list of who they need to buy for(if that helps them) on Thursday and staff will them make their purchases.

Term Dates

Just as a reminder, the 26/27 term dates are now available on the website. You will note that our first week back in September is a week of INSET days so your children will return to school on Monday 7Th September. For those of you with children who struggle with busy holiday periods, I hope that this will enable you to book a quieter and cheaper week away with your children, without requesting any time during the term time when they should be learning. I hope this is helpful for you.
