Principal’s message to families – 2nd October 2026

This week’s proud moments…

Our assemblies this week focussed on “Inventions and Innovation”. Students were asked to think of new inventions and they had some great ideas:

  • Having magnetic keys so that the key goes into the correct lock when you approach a door
  • An animal translator device (so that animals can “speak” to humans and vice versa)
  • A healthy chocolate plant that does not melt in the fields!

They all worked really well together and were enthusiastic to share their ideas. Some were amazed that one computer used to take up the space of the sports hall and now we have the equivalent in a mobile phone.

One of our pupils in Primary tried new salty, sweet and sour foods including smelling and carrying banana on a plate which they really dislike.

Activities in School

Last week we were joined by Tim and Filip, researchers from King’s College London. Tim and Filip are looking into how new technology can make communication easier. Over the next 6 months, Tim and Filip will run a monthly design club, where the students are encouraged to combine their creativity with technology to produce something that supports communication.

Last week, the students had their say on what they would like the Design Club sessions to look like. They choose to create a gadget that could support everyone in school. We can’t wait to see where their creativity takes them!

Macmillan Cancer Support

Thank you to parents / carers who were able to attend our first Tea Party last Friday in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.  I am pleased to share with you that we raised £243 for the charity, we will wait to receive our official certificate in November.

UPCOMING EVENTS IN SCHOOL

New Parents Meeting

The New Parents Meeting is next Friday 9th October 12.45pm until 2pm. This is where parents of new pupils have the opportunity to meet together for refreshments and catch up with other parents. If any new would like to attend this, please let Lisa White know and she will add you to the list. [email protected]

Hello Yellow Event – Friday 9th October 2026

On Friday 9th October, we will be taking part in Hello Yellow, a campaign supporting young people’s mental health.

Hello Yellow is all about standing out, starting conversations and showing young people that they are not alone with their mental health.

To celebrate Hello Yellow, we have lots of activities planned across school:

Non-Uniform & Wear Yellow.

Pupils are invited to come to school in non-uniform and, if possible, wear something yellow. This could be a yellow T-shirt or jumper, but it doesn’t need to be big. Even yellow socks, a hair accessory or something small would be fantastic! We are asking for a small voluntary donation for taking part.

Yellow Foods Tuck Shop

At break time, our Wellbeing Team will be running a special Yellow Foods Tuck Shop. Pupils will be able to choose from a selection of yellow-themed treats and snacks, such as bananas, Cheese Strings and lemon drizzle cake, for a small donation.

Hello Yellow Photo Booth

We’ll have a fun photo booth where pupils can have their photograph taken with their friends and enjoy making some positive memories together.

Our Wall of Positivity

We will also be creating a whole-school Wall of Positivity, with pupils contributing positive messages, kind words and pictures that make them feel happy or supported.

All money raised during the day will support the Hello Yellow campaign and young people’s mental health.

Thank you, as always, for your support. We can’t wait to see school filled with yellow! 💛

If your child leaves home in the morning a little unsettled and you want to quickly tell us, so we know to expect a tricky start to the day, a quick email (that we can follow up later) to the tutor and/or core team with ‘Handle with Care’ in the email title will ensure that we are aware.
