Black History Celebration
Our whole-school Black History celebration was a fantastic success. Pupils took part in a vibrant range of activities, including African drumming, samba drumming, and dancing with colourful hula skirts and face paint. They enjoyed food-tasting sessions with samosas, gyozas, jambalaya and refreshing mocktails, and explored themes of empowerment through “What Makes Me Powerful?” activities featuring the Black Power fist. Classes also reflected on Dr Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech and their own dreams for the world, before taking on our Freedom March obstacle course.
The event was designed to give pupils an engaging, hands-on experience of different cultural traditions and to deepen their understanding of Black history, identity and resilience. By celebrating diversity and recognising the contributions of Black communities, we aim to promote understanding, respect and equality within our school community. Take a look at our photos…

History also came alive with our re-enactment event on Thursday. Children loved hearing and seeing history in action!

We look forward to those of you who are able to come and help us set up on Friday (28th Nov between 12.30 and 2pm) and remind you again that school will be closed for pupils on Monday December 1st.
For those of you who are attending parents day, the deadline to book a lunch through ParentPay / Weduc is this Saturday evening (22nd Nov)
Parents are reminded that you can view your bookings on the Weduc App.
At parents day you will also have the chance to find out more about our extended day provision and short breaks and one of our parent schools advisory board (SAB) members will be here to chat with about potentially joining the board to help support us at Dawn House.
Have a great weekend, and keep those donations coming in!
Best wishes,

If your child leaves home in the morning a little unsettled and you want to quickly tell us, so we know to expect a tricky start to the day, a quick email (that we can follow up later) to the tutor and/or core team with ‘Handle with Care’ in the email title will ensure that we are aware.
