  • Shakespeare schools production - MACBETH - 5th December 2022

Thu 01 Dec 2022 Andy Metcalfe

This year’s Shakespeare schools production is a DHS film version of Macbeth.

It has been a whole school production with collaboration across Key stages 3/4/5.

Our version of the story takes place in the future, 2220, a world that has no machines and humans have gone back to living of the land in small isolated communities. This year I have worked closely with the English department and Forest Schools teacher, (who create with the students an amazing set) to really give as many students as possible a chance to take part in the performance.

The film will be released onto the Shakespeare schools website on the 5th of December for the nation to see, and will be celebrated in school that same day. Please see that link below:

  • Uniformed Services Day 22nd November

Wed 30 Nov 2022 Karen Lindley

Dawn House School had  a Uniformed Services Day on Tuesday 22nd November . This was a different sort of day for children who wanted to join in, having fun finding out about uniformed services and trying new activities with their house team (more news coming up next week about the re-vamped house system).

We had visitors in school from Operation Reacher, which is part of the police. Unfortunately the ambulance service were able to join us due to Covid and the army had had a serious flood so were also unable to attend. The team from Operation Reacher did us proud though and made sure the children had a great day. The children’s highlights were seeing staff bundled into the police vehicles and hearing the sirens! The Police highlights were the amazing behaviour of the children and joining them for lunch! We did have a fire alarm in the middle of the day but the fire service were not required!

  • Red Weather Warning

    Sun 17 Jul 2022
Due to the red weather warning issued for Monday and Tuesday this week we are putting the following measures in place:
    • Children can come to school in alternative clothes to school uniform if you think they will be cooler, as long as clothes are appropriate for school.
    • We ask that they have sun cream applied and bring it with them to school- but do not plan for them to spend time in the sun outside
    • All children should bring a water bottle and we will encourage them to fill them up regularly. Hats/caps are also advisable.
    • Alternative indoor breaktimes/lunchtime activities will be arranged
    • We will re-locate some lessons from some of the warmer classrooms in school
    • There will be fans available and these will go to the warmer areas in school
    •  Non essential trips off site have been cancelled
    • Care plans will be updated for any children at specific risk in the heat and information will be shared with relevant staff as early as possible.
Hopefully with these measures in place the days will go smoothly.

However, if you are concerned about your child's journey to school or any aspect of how they will cope in the heat at school, please make a sensible decision and let us know, in the usual way, if they will not be attending school. There will be no issue if you decide to keep your child at home and the absence will be marked as authorised.

We will monitor the situation in school and further advice and will update with any changes necessary for Tuesday.
